The Real Wine Drinking Guide: The Other Naughty Piglet

The “other” in question is Naughty Piglets’ sister restaurant which has taken over the first floor of The Other Palace in Victoria. The story goes that a certain impresario, and composer, whose name escapes us, was so enchanted by the original Naughty Piglets in Brixton that he invited the owners to run his restaurant-cum-wine-bar in his newly-opened theatre.

TONP focuses on low intervention wines and seasonal sharing plates. One large room with a mix of kitchen counter seats, counter top seats, regular tables and communal dining and the honoured natural wine bar adornments of much-loved empty bottles and Michel Tolmer posters. Whilst hip hop, funk and 80s music rumble in the background one may tuck into a modish European menu with occasional Asian twists. Top dishes include XO linguine, cured egg yolk; Black pudding, turnip, chestnut; Orkney scallops, cauliflower, monk's beard and Beef short rib, carrots, onions – the menu changes according to the season. Small plates to share are the order of the day, even if that person you share with is yourself.

The proudly natural wine list, classified by region, is a shorter version of the Brixton original with around 160 bins, including 4 whites and 4 reds, a fizz and the obligatory orange by the glass.

Producers we love: Jacques Maillet, Gut Oggau, Partida Creus, Jonas Brand; Marco Burrati.

Look out for the lesser spotted: Emmanuel Houillon; Olivier Cousin.

We really like: That there is always an orange wine by the glass.

Do: Check out their occasional cheese nights with their friends from Androuet.

Key wine person(s): Margaux and Clement.
