Rebecca Gibb on the noble Framingham
2009 Framingham,
Noble Riesling,
Marlborough
Made by a fellow north-easterner, Andrew Hedley, Framingham’s wines are all exceptional and gold-medal worthy. However, I’m picking out this 7.5% sweet Riesling, as the EU has just allowed New Zealand’s sweet wine to be sold in Europe. It’s going to be at the UK’s annual trade tasting next month so run along. It is rich and honeyed (with a residual sugar level of 190g/l). Clean tangerine and peach aromas with a cleansing freshness on the finish that runs through Kiwi sweeties.
Not yet available in the UK but Framingham’s distributor is Les Caves de Pyrene
