Fancy some Romorantin?

Bob Tyrer in The Sunday Times, 11 Dec 2009:

Obscure grapes excite me. The lovely romorantin is an ancient variety that has retreated to a tiny spot in the Loire, while chardonnay, its upstart cousin, has conquered the world. Sold as courcheverny, it’s rich, spicy and minerally, and ages well. According to Graeme Mackenzie, who runs Martlet Wines, in Sussex, it was brought to France by Leonardo da Vinci; others say the Romans or the Croats. Graeme has some Domaine des Huards Cour-Cheverny 2002 for £8.45 (martletwines.eu); or Les Caves de Pyrène, home of obscure grapes, has the exceptional Domaine de la Charmoise Provignage 2006 for £38.78 (lescaves.co.uk). Like pelaverga, romorantin seems immune to brutal treatment, so it thrives in the bottle for a while after opening.
