Grape Variety: Loureiro
Colour: White
aka Loureira. The Galicians almost use the spellings interchangeably.
Loureira is a white Spanish wine grape planted primarily in the Galicia region. It is also grown across the border in the Portuguese wine region Vinho Verde where it is known as Loureiro. It made either as a varietal wine or in a blend with Treixadura. The name derives from the Spanish for laurel and the berries are larger than the Albarino grape (for example). It is gently aromatic with soft fruity tones and notes of bay, laurel and pepper. In Terras Gauda Loureira is blended with Albarino and Caino. The Albarino provides the citrus and acid component, Loureira fills out the mid palate and contributes an aromatic component whilst Caino gives length, structure and mineral grip.
Whether from Portugal or Spain you should be drinking these wines with the incredible range of seafood available from the Atlantic coast.
