Grape Variety: Lledoner Pelut

Colour: Red

It may sound like a Welsh lamb curry but it is, in fact, a grape variety, poetically referred to as Garnatxa Peluda” ("Hairy Grenache") in Catalonia, and grown on both sides of the Pyrenees, in eastern Spain and in the Languedoc-Roussillon. Probably a first cousin of Grenache, it’s said to be mixed in with regular Grenache in some of the best Catalonian vineyards and recent research in Spain into this bizarre clone indicates that it produces smaller berries with a thicker skin, which suggests a great potential for making fine wine.

Lledoner appears as a minor player in a five way blend in our Artesano Tinto from Terra Alta, a bold yet very well balanced red with appealing flavours of red and black fruits mingled with notes of liquorice and dried herbs.
