Grape Variety: Jacquere

Colour: White

Jacquere is a typical Savoie variety. Referred to “la” Jacquère by the Savoyards and “le” Jacquère in ampelography, this plant has also a number of very picturesque local names, such as cugnette, martin-cot, coufechien or rodin (aka the drinker). Responsible for the wines of Apremont, Abymes and Chignin it is productive with late maturity and flourishes on limestone soils. The grape bunches are medium-sized and very tightly packed. The grape skin is thick and the pulp is rich in juice and acrid.  Jacquère gives a pale, light golden green wine, a fragrant nose recalling white flowers and a taste reminiscent of gunflint. The wines are crisp, fresh and tingling. They should be consumed during the year following the harvest, ideally during the winter season from November to April. They go well with shellfish, seafood, raclette and fondue cheese specialities.
