Grape Variety: Favorita

Colour: White

This is indigenous to the Roero district of Piemonte, having arrived in this area following a journey from Liguria as part of one of the caravans that travelled along the famous salt and oil roads which, hundreds of years ago, linked the low Piedmont hills with the Ligurian beaches, carrying the products of the sea and land. Legnd has it that it conquered the hearts of Roero farmers over the centuries, becoming the “Favourite Grape” hence the name Favorita. It really found its ideal home on the sandy, sun-kissed hills of the Roero landscape from the end of the 17th century when winemaking books refer to the individual vinfication of the “favurie”. The grape appears on its own where it can be lively and limey ,or in blends - as in our biodynamic Vino Bianco da Tavola “Arcese” from Vittorio Bera (Canelli) - where it combines with two other Piedmontese varieties - Arneis and Cortese - to create an effervescent white redolent of appleskin, almonds and pepper.
