Grape Variety: Bourboulenc

Colour:

White

To be found in the South of France, more specifically in the Rhone and Cotes de Ventoux area.  See the Cotes du Ventoux Blanc “L’ Eclat” from Domaine de Fondreche (Sebastien Vicenti) and the Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc from Clos Saint Michel (Olivier et Frank Mousset).  The latter is a blend of 20% Bourboulenc, 20% Marsanne and 30% Clairette, which displays aromas of acacia, walnut, honey, beeswax and vanilla, completed by a mouthfeel of subtle pleasure.

Bourboulenc is used also in the production of Bandol Blanc in Provence.  See the superlative offering from Chateau de Pibarnon (Comte Henri de Victor), a magnificent blend of Bourboulenc, Clairette and Roussanne (all traditional varieties in the region), together with a little Petit Manseng; the wine is mellow and vinous, and it develops a wonderful freshness that delights the palate, which is accentuated by nuances of white flowers (jasmine, hawthorn, lime flowers and soft fruits, such as pear and peach).
