Grape Variety: Barletanna

Colour:

Red

a.k.a. Uva di Troia or Nero di Troia; Barletanna is grown along the Apulian coast in the South of Italy, there is a town called Barletta on the Apulian coast, the reason why this grape has various aliases recalling Troy is that a legend recounts that the Hellenic prince Diomedes arrived on the Southern Italian coast with shoots from this vine and proceeded to plant them. Castel del Monte Vigna Grande from Conte Spagnoletti Zeuli (Andria, Puglia) which is 100% Nero di Troia/Barletanna is an eloquent example of this variety. This wine is graced by beguiling floral aromas, and shows a well-knit palate of small red berry fruit flavours and black cherries with a whiff of vanilla.
