Case of the Month: May
Whites (2 of each)
RONCO DELLE BETULLE, FRIULI, 2016 SAUVIGNON
100% Sauvignon. Delicious with good structure and acidity with pronounced aromas that recall sage, tomato leaves and yellow peppers.
DOMAINE BRUNO LUPIN, SAVOIE, 2016, FRANGY
100% Altesse. The flavours are reminiscent of pear, gingerbread, spice and honey with a touch of nougat and the mouthfeel is soft, mellow and off dry.
Rosé (2 of each)
DOMAINE MAUPERTUIS, JEAN MAUPERTUIS, AUVERGNE, 2017 ‘PINK BULLES’
100% Gamay. You can imagine quaffing these bulles whilst playing boules. This bubbly pale pink Gamay is relentlessly cheerful with delicious ripe strawberry flavours and mouth-cleansing acidity. Off-dry, it merits the cliché “summer in a glass”.
JUDITH BECK, AUSTRIA, 2017 ‘PINK’
100 % Zweigelt. A beautiful rosé with pronounced fruit, predominantly strawberries and peach, with well-balanced acidity which leads to a fresh and dry finish.
Reds (2 of each)
VERDIER-LOGEL, COTES DU FOREZ, 2017 ‘LES GOURMETS’
100% Gamay. From granitic rather than volcanic soils which helps to impart a rich earthy fragrance to the delicious purple berry fruits.
DOMAINE DEL UROGALLO, ASTURIAS, 2016 ‘LA FANFARRIA’
50% Albarín Tinto, 50% Mencia. Youthful purple colour, the wine is light bodied, lots of dark fruit, somewhat rustic style with characteristic Cangas fresh acidity.
