Vinho Verde and the biodynamic calendar

image

Supping the last drops of giddy, gobby, purple-hearted Afros Vinho Verde. Yesterday, the wine was sarsenet, sweet and almost vanilla-coated, a velvet fist in a velvet glove, a creme de mure of a wine without angles and edges. Today, much of the puppy fat had been shed; I detected some welcome pippiness and a hint of raspberry vinegar.

I am increasingly convinced that the biodynamic calendar does not lie. Yesterday was a leaf day. Plus low pressure. Double wine whammy. All the wines were out of kilter. Go figure. Les Caves has held its trade tastings for the last three years on flower days and the wines have generally sung. However, as if to ram home the point, a large tasting done by one rep a week later and held on a root day, saw many of the same wines tasting thin, insipid and metallic. Make mental note: do more research on this subject.
